Job Summary
The Supervisor – Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of EVS staff, managing daily assignments, monitoring service quality, and ensuring compliance with established cleaning protocols and regulatory guidelines. This position functions as the department lead in the absence of the EVS Manager, ensures appropriate staffing and task distribution, and supports performance improvement efforts.
Essential Functions
- Directs daily operations and assigns housekeeping staff to areas according to priorities and schedules.
- Monitors EVS performance, inspects work quality, and provides feedback or reassignments as necessary.
- Ensures that safety, cleanliness, and infection control standards are met throughout the facility.
- Provides training and orientation to new staff on departmental procedures and proper cleaning techniques.
- Ensures compliance with isolation and terminal cleaning protocols in patient care areas.
- Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; ensures staff adhere to equipment use policies.
- Assists in staff evaluations and disciplinary actions in coordination with the department manager.
- Responds to and resolves customer service concerns regarding cleanliness or support services.
- Leads department huddles and communicates key updates and expectations to team members.
- Serves as a departmental representative during hospital-wide emergency codes and response drills.
- Maintains all logs and records related to cleaning, inspections, and quality checks.
- Acts as a role model for professionalism, customer service, and infection control practices.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Advanced knowledge of infection prevention, isolation procedures, and proper waste disposal.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to supervise and motivate staff in a dynamic environment.
- Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment safety standards.
- Proficiency in basic recordkeeping and familiarity with digital work order systems (Preferred)
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
Licenses/Certifications
- CHEST, CSCT, or industry-recognized certification (Preferred or obtained within defined timeframe)
- Completion of internal training and competency programs (Required upon hire)
Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a healthcare or commercial cleaning environment (Required)
- Previous supervisory or lead role in EVS (Preferred)
