
Surgical Case Coordinator (RN)
Position Summary
The Surgical Case Coordinator (RN) will oversee the administrative coordination of surgical cases prior to surgery. This RN will serve as the primary liaison between our clinic, outside referring clinics, and the ASC. They will oversee the surgery schedule by receiving and coordinating all surgery case requests, ensuring that each case includes the required documentation and is ready to move through the scheduling and preoperative process.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm PT
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities of the Surgical Case Coordinator (RN) include, but are not limited to:
- Receiving and coordinating all surgery requests from our clinic and outside referring clinics.
- Managing and maintaining the ASC surgery schedule.
- Ensuring all required documentation is received before a case is scheduled.
- Reviewing patient health information to identify potential medical concerns.
- Obtaining and reviewing outside medical records, diagnostic testing, and medical clearances as needed.
- Preparing cases for anesthesia review and collaborating with the anesthesia team to ensure patients are medically optimized for surgery.
- Serving as the primary communication bridge between the clinics and the ASC throughout the preoperative process.
- Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout their surgical experience
- Maintain a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patients, physicians and staff
- Assist in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Center
- Document appropriately the care that is given to the patient
- Continuing education to meet State requirements and keep current with health care changes.
- Display professionalism at work and in the community as a representative of the Center
- Take an active role on committees within the department
- Identifies actual and potential risk to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety
- Performs charge nurse responsibilities as staffing demands and as requested
Education/Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Current State licensure and CPR, ACLS and BLS accreditation
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Problem solving skills
- Skill in using a computer
- Knowledge of applicable specialties
- Outpatient clinical organizational ability
- Ability to remove oneself personally from given situations, remaining objective
