Position Summary
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing all areas of federal, state, and local tax compliance, including maintaining a database of filings, permits, and exemptions. Responsibilities also include being the main contact with the company’s external tax advisors on all tax issues and generally supporting the company with tax requirements.
Role & Responsibilities
- Together with external tax advisors, prepare all Federal, State and Local tax calculations and analysis to ensure accurate and timely filing of returns and payments with multiple state, city and county authorities including income, sales & use, franchise, personal property, beverage/excise, real estate taxes, and miscellaneous taxes
- Organize and maintain electronic tax records and various tax website credentials
- Define policies and procedures including tax calendar maintenance to ensure proper filing of tax returns
- Monitor changes in tax rates and legislation, update management and team about discovered modifications, and initiate alterations to comply with authoritative requirements
- Utilize online tax research services to reach conclusions about newly explored opportunities or jurisdictions
- Propose strategies for minimizing tax liabilities
- Resolve tax assessments and/or notices through written and verbal communication with state and local tax representatives
- Maintain notice activity relative to incoming notices and active notice balances
- Compile information and supporting documentation to satisfy information document requests issued by tax auditors
- Liaise between the accounting group and external tax advisors.
- Train contractors on use tax requirements
- Provide tax coding and vouchers/backup for tax expenses and training as needed
- Define methodology to collect and report data for the required sales tax returns
- Administer 1099 and 1042 and any other required reporting

Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required, MBA a plus
- 7 years of experience in the related area or Spirits Industry
- Extensive knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Project Management, Excel, and Word
- Ability to work with syndicated data for storytelling
- Working knowledge of SAP, tax preparation software and tax provision preparation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
The salary range for this role is a base salary of $90,000 - $120,000 along with an annual bonus, 401K match, and medical and wellness benefits. The range will vary if outside of this location. Base salaries are determined during our interview process, by assessing a candidate’s experience and skill set against internal peers and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.
