Schneider Downs’ Energy & Resources Tax Advisory Services provides specialized financial advice and services to our clients in the oil and gas, mining and aggregates, forest products and alternative fuel and energy industries throughout the Columbus and Pittsburgh regions. Our extensive knowledge of industry issues enables us to provide proactive International Tax, State and Local Tax (SALT), Tax Credits and Incentives, and Tax Planning and Reporting services.As the Tax Manager – Energy & Resources, you will provide tax consulting and compliance services, as well as oversee all aspects of the tax planning, preparation and review process for tax engagements. In this role, you will maintain relationships with a diverse client base focusing on those clients involved in forest products, mining and aggregates, oil and gas, and Marcellus Shale and Utica Shale, and assist firm leadership in identifying new opportunities and obtaining new engagements. Internally, you will manage engagement economics and provide technical and leadership development to the tax team.Schneider Downs has embraced the hybrid work model, so this role will have flexibility working from home, as well as in the office.WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Maintain and develop strong client relationships on various tax consulting/compliance engagements
  • Manage engagement workflow, engagement team resources and engagement billing
  • Work as part of a coordinated client service team approach, working with other practice units to provide industry knowledge and insight to clients in the energy & resources industry
  • Review tax returns prepared by staff and make recommendations regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities
  • Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues and the tax implications of strategic initiatives or transactions considered by our clients as their trusted tax advisor
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and working knowledge of accounting and tax software
  • Review engagement profitability and prepare and analyze monthly billing for assigned engagements
  • Stay informed of current and proposed tax legislation, communicating potential impacts to clients and assist with planning
  • Provide leadership, counseling and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team
  • Represent firm and build relationships by attending fundraisers, meetings with prospects/bankers, charitable events, professional organizations, etc.
  • Work as a member of the Energy & Resources Industry Group on internal initiatives that promote firm growth, culture, technical tax content development and technological advances

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • CPA, J.D., LL.M or Masters in Taxation
  • Minimum of five years of public accounting experience
  • Significant prior experience managing compliance and consulting engagements for clients in the energy & resources industry
  • Ability to develop business and foster client relationships
  • Strong leadership, training and mentoring skills
  • Excellent writing, communication and tax research skills
