
Thrift Marketing and Communications Manager
Job Synopsis
The MCC Thrift Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for stewarding and strengthening the MCC Thrift brand in a competitive secondhand retail market through the development and implementation of national marketing and communications activities. This leadership role works closely with the Thrift networks across Canada and the U.S., and will lead efforts to increase brand awareness, reach and engagement across all channels, ensuring MCC Thrift is strategically positioned to attract and retain customers and grow revenue, while supporting MCC’s mission, vision and values. This role works within a federated model where provincial and regional shops are responsible for local retail execution, income generation and local marketing initiatives under the brand umbrella.

- Post-secondary degree in marketing
- Minimum 5 years in retail marketing
- Familiarity with sustainability trends and consumer behaviour in secondhand retail
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and supervise staff
- Ability to gather and analyze data to make strategic decisions
- Familiarity with SEO, AEO, analytics and digital advertising strategies
- Experience managing multi-channel campaigns (print, digital, social)
- Excellent collaboration and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic graphic design skills, and familiarity with tools such as InDesign and Canva
- Must be able to travel to the United States, including obtaining required visa's as required by the role
- Police record check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Audiovisual skills (such as photography or videography)
- Experience in thrift or secondhand retail
- Strong copyediting and storytelling skills
- Understanding of nonprofit marketing and donor engagement principles
- Demonstrated understanding and support of the vision, purpose, beliefs and values of MCC, the biblical call to respond to human need, and the Anabaptist commitment to peace and justice

Duties
Marketing and Communications Planning and Evaluation – 20%- In consultation with the MCC Thrift network, develop an annual national marketing and communications plan to enhance visibility, reach and brand differentiation in a competitive secondhand retail market
- Monitor industry trends, sustainability movements and competitor activity to inform strategic positioning
- Maintain and monitor MCC Thrift brand identity, including positioning, messaging and brand guidelines through regular market and consumer research
- Collaborate with MCC Thrift networks in Canada and the U.S. to ensure brand consistency across the federated system
- Produce regular reports on outputs, outcomes and key performance indicators for the supervisor and Thrift networks in Canada and the U.S.
- Maintain MCC Thrift trademark registration in Canada
Content Creation and Editing – 55%
- Oversee the execution of national marketing initiatives and materials across platforms including the website, social media, e-newsletter, and print
- Coordinate and develop Thrift brand assets and templates for shops to adapt and implement
- Maintain and monitor the MCC Thrift visual guidelines, including logo, colour palette, typography, and other brand elements
- Provide communications, storytelling, and copyediting support for local MCC Thrift shops, including identifying and writing local stories
- Collaborate with the Thrift network to develop strategies and messaging that raise awareness about MCC’s international impact and deepen engagement among shoppers, volunteers and donors
- Supervise and mentor the MCC Thrift Digital Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator to ensure cohesive digital and social strategies
Administrative and Meetings – 25%
- Lead and participate regularly in Thrift network meetings and planning discussions in Canada
- Check in regularly with the U.S. National Thrift Shop Development Coordinator to ensure alignment with Thrift’s shared strategic priorities
- Coordinate the Thrift marketing reference group, fostering collaboration, gathering feedback and supporting local shop marketing efforts.
- Participate in regular MCC Canada CDR team meetings and manager check-ins
- Set annual objectives and conduct performance appraisals for supervised staff
- Occasional domestic or international travel as required
- Other duties as assigned
Contact/Relationships:
The Thrift Marketing Manager is an essential part of the MCC Canada Communications and Donor Relations team. They will work closely with the MCC Thrift network across Canada and the U.S., functioning as an integrated participant.Supervision:
- The Thrift Marketing Manager will supervise the MCC Thrift Digital Coordinator and the MCC Thrift Social Media Coordinator, with dotted line contact to the MCC U.S. Graphic Design and Marketing Specialist
- The manager will also oversee the work of temporary contract workers or freelancers
