The Vice President and Executive Director of HFHI's Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Habitat Capital, is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving the organization's mission to provide financial services and support to affordable housing developers serving low-income communities. Habitat Capital is a subsidiary of Habitat for Humanity International and provides a range of financial products including loans, mortgage innovations, and technical assistance to the US network of Habitat for Humanity affiliates and mission-aligned organizations. This position involves strategic planning, operational management, and community engagement to ensure the CDFI's success and sustainability. The Executive Director will be responsible for driving the organization's next era of growth and impact. The ability to represent the organization, build relationships and foster cohesive teams is essential to the role. The ED will be expected to manage a portfolio of on and off-balance sheet development loans and pursue innovative financing solutions to deliver capital and technical support to HFH affiliates. Habitat Capital is a national CDFI providing a network of ~950 affiliated local Habitat organizations with flexible capital and technical assistance to support their work as non-profit real estate developers and mortgage lenders.
Essential Duties
Strategic Leadership (15%) - Develop and implement Habitat Capital's (HC) strategic vision and goals, aligning them with HFHI's broader mission to promote economic development and financial inclusion in underserved communities. Set multi year strategic goals for Habitat Capital’s lending portfolio, product suite, and affiliate support model. Evaluate market trends, community need, and credit conditions to guide product evolution and portfolio diversification. Work cross functionally with HFHI leadership to integrate Habitat Capital into enterprise-wide strategies.
Capital Strategy and Investor Relations (15%) - Lead Habitat Capital’s capital raising strategy, cultivating relationships with philanthropic, public, and private investors to expand lending and operational capacity. Oversee fundraising for new loan funds, credit facilities, and innovative financing instruments aligned with affiliate needs. Manage financial partner reporting, investor communications, and impact measurement.
Operational Management (15%) - Oversee the day-to-day operations of HC, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of financial products and services. This includes overseeing the management of on and off balance sheet loan portfolios, budgets, resources, and staff. Ensure strong internal controls, lending operations workflow, and data-driven performance management across all programs
Community Engagement (15%) - Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, including affiliates, affiliate support organizations, community development partners, government agencies and mission aligned organizations, . Advocate for the needs of the network and promote HC's services. Ensure the work of Habitat Capital deepens impact and meets the needs of community.
Lending, Credit and Financial Oversight (10%) – Bring strong lending, underwriting and risk management expertise. Ensure the financial health of HC by managing credit risk appropriately, monitoring financial performance, building sustainable revenue streams and implementing strategies to achieve financial goals.
Program Development (10%) - Design and implement programs that address the financial, insurance, and knowledge needs of HFHI Affiliates and their communities, such as flexible lending programs, affordable housing financing, mortgage solutions, community development loans, and financial and technical assistance initiatives.
Board Collaboration (10%) - Work closely with the Habitat Capital Board, HFHI Board of Directors, and a range of other boards and committees to provide updates on organizational performance, seek guidance or strategic decisions, and ensure governance practices are followed.
Team Leadership (10%) - Lead and inspire a team of 14 professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for staff ensuring the needed skill sets are hired and trained for sustained growth and team success.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, public administration, business or related field. MS/MBA strongly preferred.
• 15 Years related experience in financial services, community development finance, real estate development, underwriting or risk management
• Experience managing complex loan portfolios, capital strategies, and multi-stakeholder financial programs
• Experience in fundraising, securing investments and loans
• Extensive experience in community development, fund administration, financial services and/or non-profit management
• Proven track record in fundraising and financial management, including closing major debt or equity raises for Funds and managing a portfolio of investments over $100MM
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong leadership and management skills with a proven track record of leading and developing successful teams
Preferred
• Deep Impact investing knowledge particularly in the affordable home ownership sector
• Substantial experience managing the day-to-day operations of a real estate development loan fund
• Experience and relationships in affordable housing development especially existing relationships with Habitat affiliates and related organizations
• Demonstrated ability to design and scale financial products
• Strong mission alignment and equity driven leadership

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $223,300 to $262,700.
Staff hired on a hybrid basis in the United States near Atlanta, Georgia / Washington, DC and Americus, GA), are required to report to the office on Tuesdays.
