Visiting Instructor in BiologyUIW MissionPosition SummaryThe Department of Biology at the University of the Incarnate Word invites full-time, non-tenure track candidates for Visiting Instructor of Biology beginning FALL 2026. Full-time instructors at UIW are expected to teach 15 credit hours (or five courses) in the fall and spring semesters. Courses taught will primarily include lecture and laboratory courses in anatomy and physiology and other general biology courses as needed.In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, service, and professional activities.Essential FunctionsPrimary responsibilities include:• Prepare and deliver interactive undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses consistent with the needs of the department. Needs include but are not limited to anatomy, physiology, and general biology.• Coordinate anatomy & physiology laboratories.• Participate in curriculum development.• Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.• Prepare timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.• Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.• Advise and mentor undergraduate students of respective major; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.• Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.• Actively collaborate with students and faculty within the department, from other disciplines and the University's health professional schools to support the university mission.• Provide service to the department, School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, university, community, and profession.• Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.• Perform other duties as assigned.
