Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Distribution Water Operator l (M&O Utilities Technician). A Water Operator l assists with the installation, maintenance, inspection, removal, testing, diagnosis, repair, and calibration of water lines, sewer lines, service lines, lift stations, valves, hydrants, meters, valves, screens, and related items; Assists with the collection and testing of water samples and conducting routine lab testing; Records data and completes logs and work orders; Assists in cleaning equipment, sites, buildings, reservoirs, basins, filters, and process areas; Performs field inspections of water services; Assists with locating utilities; assists with repairing and reading water meters; Assists with credit/collections issues related to utility services; and, performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in a maintenance and/or operational area; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Grade 1 certification, or ability to obtain and maintain a Grade 1 Water Treatment or Water Distribution certification within one (1) year from date of hire. Grade 2 certification is preferred. Valid Arizona Driver's license required. CDL A license with Tanker endorsement highly desired.

Additional Requirements:

  • May require working rotating on-call duties, weekends, evenings, nights, Holidays, overtime and emergency call-outs.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy: Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, blood and other bodily fluids, and extreme temperatures.
