Position Purpose
To ensure that the design of JCB products performs to the targets set out by Sales and Marketing, and Design Engineering. Validate machine systems and certify that the design and performance meet or exceed the relevant international standards.
Assembly and maintenance of prototype / test vehicles. To ensure that new and current designs meet the intended fit form and functionality intended by engineering. Component and test point fitting to support Test and Development Engineers to enable testing of machines and components. Product support with new product introductions.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities
Mechanical Assembly:
- Assembling complex mechanical and electromechanical systems and sub-assemblies using various hand and power tools, ensuring precise tolerances and adherence to engineering drawings.
System Integration:
- Collaborating with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and software engineering teams to integrate components, subsystems, and assemblies into complete machine systems or test rigs, ensuring correct fit, function, and overall system performance.
Fabrication and Modification:
- Fabricating or modifying prototype components, tooling, fixtures, and fittings to support new product development, often using workshop equipment like lathes, mills, or 3D printers.
Interpreting Design Documents:
- Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and CAD models to understand design intent and assembly sequences.
Providing Design Feedback (DFMA):
- Participating in the Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) process by identifying potential production issues on prototype machines and recommending design changes to engineers.
On-site Support:
- Potentially traveling to field sites or production lines to support the installation, setup, or troubleshooting of prototype machines.
Machine Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues that arise during the build or testing phase.
Repairs:
- Performing necessary repairs or component replacements on machinery and equipment, from simple fixes to more complex repairs involving disassembling machinery.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Conducting routine inspections and performing preventive maintenance on all shops and test machinery as per manufacturers’ recommendations to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Calibration and Testing:
- Adjusting and calibrating equipment to optimal specifications and conducting performance tests to ensure machines are functioning correctly and safely.
Documentation:
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and inventory of spare parts and supplies.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhering to all safety protocols and compliance standards when building, testing, and maintaining equipment.
Collaboration and Documentation:
- Collaborating with engineering: Working closely with design and engineering teams to provide feedback on manufacturability (DFMA), assembly processes, and design modifications. Documenting work: Maintaining accurate and detailed records of work performed, including wiring diagrams, test results, modifications, and inventory management.
Communication:
- Clearly communicating issues, risks, and recommendations to engineers and management.
On-site support:
- Potentially traveling to support prototype vehicle builds or system integration at different facilities, providing on-site troubleshooting and technical support.
Workspace and Inventory Management:
Maintaining lab standards:
- Ensuring a clean, organized, and safe working environment, including the proper maintenance and organization of materials, tools, and test equipment.
Inventory management:
- Assisting with the procurement of parts and materials and managing inventory for prototype builds
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Comfortable in an in-person office environment
- Technical competence is a plus
- Must be customer service oriented, flexible, and have a high energy level
- Must have excellent follow-through skills
- Must have a professional, polished, and sophisticated demeanor and be comfortable in most social settings
- Must be open to domestic and international travel
- Desire and proven ability to learn and grow
