Job Description
The Operating Room Assistant Technician plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team and ensuring the smooth operation of procedures. Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Assistant provides direct patient care, acts as a retractor holder, and assists with various tasks to ensure a sterile and efficient environment. This role is integral to the success of surgical procedures and requires a dedicated and compassionate individual.Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team during operating procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Act as a retractor holder during surgery, providing direct patient care.
- Arrange sterile setup, adjust lights, and clean the operating room.
- Prepare patients' skin prior to surgery, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
- Assist with patient positioning and transportation, following the instructions of the surgical RN.
- Provide personal care assistance to patients and participate in the development of their care plan.
- Communicate observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate on a regular basis.
- Collect test specimens as per established procedures and document patient care activities.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and respect when interacting with patients and their information.
- Work collaboratively as part of the care team, supporting team objectives and assisting other team members.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- BLS certification is mandatory.
- Ability to speak and write English fluently.
- Bilingual candidates are preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
- Patient care education or direct patient care experience is a must.
- Previous surgical experience is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with team members.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, problem-solving skills, and good judgment.
- Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred, with training provided for incumbents.
