Technical Leader, Water & Wastewater Structures
Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer / Technical Leader to join our Facilities and Water/Wastewater Structures practice. This position will serve as a technical lead for structural engineering projects supporting municipal water and wastewater clients throughout Texas and the Gulf Coast region.
The successful candidate will lead and perform the structural design of water and wastewater infrastructure including treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, flow control structures, chemical feed facilities, tanks, intake structures, and related facilities. The position includes technical leadership, mentoring of junior staff, proposal support, client interaction, quality management, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
This position is being recruited to maintain and expand LAN's water and wastewater structural engineering capabilities and support a growing backlog of municipal infrastructure projects.
Technical Leadership
- Lead structural design efforts for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Serve as technical lead or Engineer of Record on assigned projects.
- Perform structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and foundation systems.
- Develop plans, specifications, technical reports, and engineering calculations.
Project Delivery
- Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Participate in design reviews and quality control processes.
- Support construction administration activities including RFIs, submittals, and field observations.
- Assist with project scheduling and resource planning.
Business Development
- Support proposal development and interviews.
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships.
- Identify opportunities for additional services within existing client programs.
Staff Development
- Mentor junior engineers and EITs.
- Provide technical training and guidance on water/wastewater structural design.
- Support development of internal standards and best practices.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas, or ability to obtain Texas PE within six months
- Minimum 10+ years of structural engineering experience
- Significant experience in water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Experience designing reinforced concrete structures in accordance with: ACI 318, ACI 350, ASCE 7, IBC
- Experience with: Water treatment plants, Wastewater treatment plants, Pump stations, Lift stations, Below-grade structures, Hydraulic structures, Equipment foundations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience coordinating with civil, process, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- MS degree in Structural Engineering
- SE license or demonstrated path toward SE licensure
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record (EOR)
- Experience performing construction phase services and responding to RFIs and submittals
- Experience with structural analysis software such as: RISA, RAM, STAAD, SAP2000, Mathcad
- Experience developing proposals and client relationships
- Existing municipal client relationships in Texas
