The Global Business & Transportation Department (GBAT) at SUNY Maritime College invites applications for a position as a non-tenure track Lecturer with a strong background in maritime operations, the maritime industry, and with College level teaching experience. The appointment is lecturer 10-month academic year and requires a strong commitment to excellence. Duties include teaching a mixture of maritime operations, maritime business, logistics, and general business undergraduate and Graduate courses. The teaching load is a minimum of 4 three-credit courses per semester in a combination of face to face, hybrid and/or online formats. Additional participation in curriculum and course development, Assessment activities, College-wide faculty governance by sitting on committees, working as an Academic Advisor to multiple students, and being a member of Global Business and Transportation Department work-groups and committees is required.



Job Requirements:
  • A minimum of 20 years working in the maritime industry with a combination of merchant mariner-level operations, supervision/management of marine operations, personnel management, budgeting experience, and regulatory management (consisting of safety, security, and environmental protection).
  • A U.S.C.G Merchant Mariners License as a Chief Mate or Master (Active or in-Continuity status) with a minimum of 10 years of your experience being sailing (mariner) experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years (part time or full time) of college level teaching experience at both the Undergraduate and Graduate level in marine operations, transportation/logistics management, or maritime business.
  • An undergraduate Degree, plus a Master's Degree in one for the following disciplines:
  1. Marine Operations
  2. Marine Transportation
  3. Maritime Business
  4. Transportation and/or Logistics Management
  5. International Studies
  6. International Trade

Applicants must be eligible to teach in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A USCG Merchant Mariner Engineering license.
  • Past participation on industry and/or government Committees and/or work-groups.
  • The writing and/or publication of maritime related studies, reports, opinion-papers, and/or articles.

Special Notes: The Lecturer 10 Months is a non-tenure track UUP position. The anticipated salary range will be $69,000 to $78,000.00 inclusive of an outstanding benefits package (for more information, please see the UUP-FT-Benefits-at-a-Glance.pdf). Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of applications will commence immediately and conclude when the position is filled.

Special Notes: Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external searches to occur simultaneously.
