Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Pediatric Progressive Care Unit at Kentucky Children’s Hospital provide care for ill children ranging from newborn to 18 years of age. Patient conditions include: recovery from major surgical procedures and life-threatening medical conditions as well as traumatic injuries. The Progressive Care unit provides family centered care and open visitation for patients’ immediate family members. As a part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the Pediatric Progressive care team. Triage where the patient is seen to determine how to prioritize their care needs, chair centric and express care intended for low acuity patients that can be seen and discharged within 60 minutes, these patients usually have minor complaints like sore throat, an isolated extremity injury, or simple laceration. The acute care area is a 16 bed area where common emergency complaints like abdominal pain, stable chest pain, and mild to moderate shortness of air receive care. Any high acuity patients will be transported to the Level I Trauma Center ED at Chandler.
