Overview:
The Technical Writer Sr. will coordinate, execute, and lead advanced writing and editing projects to communicate complex technical and procedural requirements across the SOCOM Information Environment (SIE). This senior-level role requires exceptional writing and editing capabilities to respond to high-level, critical government requests. The Senior Technical Writer will take a leading role in managing the entire documentation lifecycle, overseeing the creation, coordination, and execution of final deliverables such as SOPs, Work Instructions, and templates. Ensure all products are completed on time, kept up-to-date, and strictly standardized to meet client expectations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, execute, and lead complex writing, editing, and content strategy projects for technical and procedural documentation across the SIE.
- Review, edit, and authorize final documentation products (SOPs, Work Instructions, templates, and manuals) to ensure high-quality standards before delivery to government clients.
- Directly address and execute on current and future government documentation requests, translating highly complex technical requirements into intuitive, structured procedural guides.
- Establish systematic processes to ensure all enterprise documentation remains up-to-date, accurate, and consistent with evolving SOCOM mission priorities.
- Develop and maintain style guides, documentation standards, and unified templates to streamline technical communications across the organization.
- Facilitate coordination between government service owners, cross-functional engineering groups, and senior leadership to drive alignment on document design, objectives, and schedules.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Technical Writer Sr. will lead, coordinate, and mentor junior writing staff and oversee the division of technical writing project tasks.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field); experience will be considered on a year-for-year basis in lieu of formal education.
- Relevant professional experience, specifically the performance of advanced technical writing, editing, and coordination functions in support of a government agency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert-level mastery of technical communication, plain-language principles, grammatical mechanics, and document design.
- Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously under tight government deadlines.
- Superior interpersonal skills to work effectively with technical subject-matter experts, eliciting detailed process workflows and clarifying complex procedures.
- Mastery of document design and creation applications, including advanced formatting features in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Solid familiarity with enterprise IT terms, infrastructure, and standard operating procedures typical of a major DoD Information Environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Advanced certifications from the Society for Technical Communication (STC), such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC), are highly valued but not required.
Security Clearance:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be eligible for and able to obtain and maintain required security clearance/access approvals.
