Job Description Job Summary: Oversee pre post-award activities for a portfolio of sponsored research projects.Position Description:The Assistant Director for Research Administration and Finance (ADRAF) will be responsible for pre and post award grant management, financial management and modeling, and all financial compliance within Opportunity Insights (OI).&nbsp; The ADRAF will oversee and manage the Finance Associate. &nbsp;In addition to managing staff and processes, the ADRAF will have a small portfolio of PIs awards that are deemed complicated and complex. The ADRAF will report to the Executive Director and serve as a member of the senior management team. &nbsp; 
 
The Center has a “full-cycle” grant management structure. In addition to pre and post award management of sponsored awards, the ADRAF will review and approve expenditures (HCOM, Corporate Card, PCard etc.). The ADRAF ensures compliance with internal Harvard polices, processes and deadlines. This includes working closely with OSP, RAS, OGC and Central finance departments. The ADRAF will assist in hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment. The ADRAF will oversee the routing and signatory process. The ADRA will establish and monitor effective pre-and post-award processes and systems. Manage pre-award areas such as: proposal submission, award validation approval and set-up. Manage post-award areas such as: award approval and set-up, financial analysis, and reporting.&nbsp; The ADRAF will also work with OI leadership on financial projections and modeling to account for Center sustainability, growth, and diversified funding streams.&nbsp; 
 
Provide problem resolution, guidance and or training for comprehensive sponsored and non-sponsored award management, compliance, systems, and reporting. Interpret regulations and guidelines of multiple program funding with complex and broad guidelines for spending. Lead the audit of individual sponsored accounts to ensure compliance with University and sponsored regulations. Ensure department’s accurate and timely financial analysis and reporting. &nbsp;Supervises Finance Associate, including planning, assigning, scheduling, reviewing work, training, mentoring and performance management. Assesses and maintains portfolio distribution and workload; redistributes assignments as needed. 
 
Serves as primary local contact for resolving issues related to review criteria such as PI eligibility, indirect cost policies, cost sharing, and identifying needed compliance approvals. 
Advises faculty and staff on existing options/alternatives; recommends courses of action on research related fiscal matters. 
 
Works with school-level offices on audits, tuition distribution, award and sub recipient monitoring, effort certifications, supplemental salary requests.

Each are described below and are estimated to be around 50% of the role.&nbsp;The National City Survey&nbsp;The People Lab will launch the first-ever national survey of city employees in 2026. This initiative will entail conducting an annual survey of city employees across the country, with the aim of empowering cities, researchers, and practitioners to better understand workforce challenges and address them in a timely and data-informed manner. The Senior Project Manager, working closely with a Data Scientist, will oversee the creation of a national panel data set of city employees as well as employee surveys in three cities to start, with the intention of scaling up to additional cities each year. They will coordinate across stakeholders; manage government partner relationships, timelines, and deliverables; coordinate all implementation logistics; support junior research staff in meeting their deliverables; and set up scalable operational infrastructure for conducting the survey annually.&nbsp;&nbsp;Policy Bot&nbsp;The Senior Project Manager will manage the development of an interactive AI bot that provides informed and accessible insights to policymakers aiming to develop and implement evidence-based policies. The work may entail (a) managing the process of gathering and categorizing evidence for different policy audiences, in collaboration with a research team; (b) project managing a series of behavioral experiments on how policymakers would use an AI bot; (c) managing and coordinating with multiple stakeholders for public-facing versions of an AI bot, including academics, developers, communications teams, and funders. <a href="https://vimeo.com/radcliffeinstitute/careers" target="_blank">Take a look at this video to get different staff perspectives on working at Harvard Radcliffe Institute!</a> Job Description Reporting to the Associate Dean for External Relations, the Senior Director of Development, Major and Leadership Gifts&nbsp;provides strategic leadership and direction to a team of frontline fundraisers for the Harvard Radcliffe Institute (HRI); secures philanthropic support from new and existing donors; serves as a member of the External Relations (ER) department’s management team; and plays a key role in sustaining and expanding the Institute’s individual giving program.&nbsp; 
 
The Senior Director is responsible for executing a major gift fundraising strategy that supports both current-use and endowment fundraising objectives, while integrating planned, leadership and annual giving strategies as required. The position requires a leadership style that will motivate team members and coordinate effectively with key stakeholders across HRI to achieve the shared programmatic and philanthropic objectives of the Institute.&nbsp; 
 
In addition, the Senior Director will be responsible for driving a critical set of internal activities on behalf of the Major Gifts team, including staff onboarding and training, fundraiser goal setting, solicitation pipeline management, prospect assignment, annual engagement plans for major gift pipeline, and other activities assigned by the Associate Dean for External Relations.&nbsp;As a senior leader within the Institute, this role informs decision making and is responsible for carrying out policies and strategies and modeling best practices as a fundraiser and colleague. 
Job-Specific Responsibilities: <ul><li>Directs the Institute’s major gifts and planned giving program and manages a team of fundraisers responsible for raising gifts in the 5-7 figure range. Oversight includes leadership gifts ($5K+), major gifts ($100K+) and planned giving. Responsibilities include management, supporting professional development, onboarding, fundraiser training and education in industry best practices, developing, deploying, and monitoring performance metrics for all team members, and providing formal feedback to staff in annual performance reviews.</li><li>Actively manages a portfolio of approximately 50 major gifts prospects and consistently secures philanthropic support at the mid-six and seven-figure levels. Conducts 50+ donor visits per year.</li><li>Leads regular prospect strategy sessions to drive major gift closures, ensuring that philanthropic potential is optimized through the development of appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies.</li><li>Effectively manages involvement of the Dean, Associate Dean, and senior leaders with donor cultivation; including preparation of annual pipelines, strategic briefings prior to visits and arranging for appropriate follow up from visits and events.</li><li>Coordinates closely with the Director of Donor Engagement to set strategy on the following:<ul><li>Leadership giving program and solicitation strategy for donors in fundraiser portfolios</li><li>Regional cultivation events&nbsp;</li><li>Fundraiser resources (talking points, external communications pieces etc.)</li></ul></li><li>Serves as the liaison to University Development Office (UDO) as well as Alumni Development Services (ADS) prospect management and research teams.&nbsp; Oversees the prospect assignment process and makes recommendations with regard to allocation of frontline resources, in consultation with the Associate Dean.</li><li>Data integrity: Manages to University guidelines for the department with regard to proposal management, prospect tracking, strategy notes and stage codes.</li><li>Engages regularly with Institute programming, identifying opportunities to highlight content and disseminating information to team members and donors.&nbsp;</li><li>Working with the Dean, program directors and colleagues in ER, helps identify and articulate fundraising HRI needs and priorities. Participates in the development of case statements, proposals, and other materials.</li><li>Prepares and drives detailed annual and multi-year plans for all areas of major, leadership and planned giving; including but not limited to prospect management and research goals; timelines, budgets, and strategic and tactical approaches.</li><li>Provides regular reports to Associate Dean on fundraising progress against goals as well as staff performance.</li><li>Evening and weekend work, and extensive travel are required.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul> 
Working Conditions: <ul><li>This role is offered as a hybrid where the incumbent is required to be onsite at our Cambridge, MA location. This experience should include: supervisory experience, event management, volunteer management, development and implementation of donor strategies; major gifts success, and proven ability to work collaboratively with&nbsp; donors, alumni, university officials, faculty, and staff or similar constituencies.</li></ul>
