Job Summary
The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY seeks to fill two tenure-eligible faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level within the Psychology department. These are 9-month positions in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. The anticipated Distribution of Effort will be 25% teaching, 70% research, and 5% departmental service. This position will be a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027.
We seek candidates who identify professionally as cognitive neuroscientists, clinical neuroscientists, or clinical neuropsychologists with expertise in neuroscience methodologies (e.g., neuroimaging, biomarkers, computational modeling, genomics, or other advanced neuroscientific research methods). The department includes a Cognitive Neuroscience area with both basic and clinically focused research programs (e.g., substance use, ADHD), as well as an APA/PCSAS-accredited Clinical Psychology PhD training program that includes a Clinical Neuropsychology concentration.
The successful candidates will join the Cognitive Neuroscience area of the experimental doctoral program and are expected to conduct research that fosters collaboration across our Cognitive Neuroscience and Clinical faculty. Candidates may also affiliate with the Clinical Psychology training program if appropriate to their interests and training.
The research focus is open and may complement existing areas of expertise within the department and university—including substance use, brain injury, decision making, attentional processes, learning and memory, Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, affective disorders, and ADHD—or introduce new areas of cognitive or behavioral neuroscience research. Candidates should have a strong research program, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and the potential to secure extramural funding. Successful candidates will also contribute to the department’s teaching and service missions and be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise.
At the University of Kentucky, faculty psychologists regularly lead multidisciplinary research teams and conduct collaborative research across a range of clinical settings, including the Department of Psychiatry, Markey Cancer Center, Kentucky Clinic, Gill Heart and Vascular Institute, Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, Eastern State Hospital, and Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. Additional research infrastructure includes the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), which provides resources such as biomarker analysis and an outpatient clinical research unit. The UK Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Center (MRISC) supports structural and functional neuroimaging with a Siemens PRISMA 3T MRI scanner.
A PhD in Psychology is required at time of appointment.
