Job Synopsis

The Dining Hall Coordinator oversees and assists with the daily operations of the MCC Dining Hall when groups are on the Welcoming Place campus. This position helps coordinate staff in the absence of the Dining Hall Manager, preparing, serving, and cleaning up food, ensuring food safety and quality, and maintaining a clean and hygienic work environment. On the administrative side, this position supports the Dining Hall Manager by coordinating dining hall staff schedules, developing and maintaining daily task lists, participating in planning and coordination meetings, communicating upcoming dining hall needs, and following through on assigned action items.
The work schedule is flexible, dependent on need. Typical shifts are 6am-2pm and 11am-7pm, with shifts often on evenings, weekdays and weekends. During the typical busy season of spring and summer months, there is more of a constant need for 6-2 or 11-7.

Essential:
  • High school diploma, GED certificate or equivalent.
  • One or more years of experience working in a food service environment, preferably in a kitchen setting.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques, including grilling, sautéing, roasting, and poaching.
  • Independent problem solver with initiative and leadership to oversee a group preparing a meal.
  • Knowledge of how to handle dietary restrictions and communicate them effectively to a team to ensure safety.
  • Knowledge of kitchen operations, including the proper use of equipment such as fryers, flat tops, and broilers.
  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and adjust them based on group size or specific needs.
  • Willingness to complete/maintain training for ServSafe certification and Allergy Course.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience using computer-based tools for email communication, scheduling, calendar management, and document preparation; ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
  • Prioritization, management, and attention to detail.
  • Able to work on feet for extended periods (8-hour shifts)
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds with support, and able to stoop low.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Can work from set instructions but has the ability to evaluate changing situations and make adjustments on work schedule when faced with special or unexpected needs.
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:
  • 2 year of experience with restaurant service.
  • ServeSafe Certification.
  • Spanish Language skills.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning appliances (dishwasher, etc.) and their operations and proper use of cleaning agents.
  • Valid US Drivers license with acceptable driving record and willingness to help with local grocery shopping.

Key Responsibilities

Dining Services Tasks:
  • Assist colleagues with food preparation, serving, and clean up.
  • In the absence of the Dining Hall Manager, oversee meal preparation and kitchen staff. Ensure recipes are followed by all team members and meals are prepared as planned with adjustments for group size.
  • Develop and communicate staff schedules for dining hall employees and on-call staff, ensuring appropriate staffing coverage for groups, events, and daily operations.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic food preparation area according to required standards.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and appearance of food as well as proper storage of leftovers.
  • Oversee staff to wash and store utensils, dishes, and appliances properly.
  • Sort, store, and distribute ingredients.
  • Handle and prepare food safely according to required standards, including washing, peeling, chopping, cutting, cooking, and preparing salads and desserts. Ensure all staff on shift adhere to these requirements.
  • Clean and sanitize the food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas.
  • Provide operational support to the Dining Hall Manager by reinforcing procedures, techniques and cooking skills with dining hall staff on shift.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all required stakeholders including but not limited to MCC staff, event planners, and dining guests to help meet guest requests and interpret policies as requested by the Dining Hall Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.


Supervision: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Indirect supervision: Serves as the “kitchen lead” when the Dining Hall Manager is not present.

Travel expectations: 5-10% locally for occasional grocery shopping

Physical Activity/Demands
  • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs/ladders or the like.
  • Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Occasionally medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Constantly operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.

Environment Conditions: occasionally exposed to low and high temperatures, outdoor elements and noisy environments.

Salary Details

Base salary: $20.83 - Starting salary may be adjusted up to $23.14 based on previous experience.
