Job Description
The Global Commercial Services – Global & Large Enterprise organization (G&L) manages American Express’ largest and strategically important commercial clients – driving differentiated value and providing solutions that meet the diverse and global needs of the company’s most valuable customers.
Within G&L, the U.S. Verticals team is a client management organization with commercial payments specialization by industry. The Director, U.S. Verticals, is responsible for leading a team that drives profitable revenue growth, wallet share expansion, client retention, and executive-level relationship development across a portfolio of Global & Large Enterprise clients. The role leads cross-functional strategies and execution to deliver differentiated client value while optimizing operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Build, inspire, coach, and develop a high-performing team by fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability, continuous development, and leadership excellence.
- Lead and execute commercial growth strategies that increase wallet share, drive profitable revenue growth, and strengthen client retention by leveraging deep industry expertise and strategic market insights.
- Build and strengthen trusted executive-level relationships with key client decision-makers, serving as a strategic advisor to identify opportunities that deepen client engagement and accelerate business growth.
- Lead the resolution of complex client challenges by developing strategic, client-centric solutions, influencing cross-functional stakeholders, and removing barriers to deliver exceptional client outcomes and operational excellence.
- Establish clear portfolio objectives, performance metrics, and pipeline governance to prioritize opportunities, optimize resource allocation, improve forecast accuracy, and deliver sustainable commercial growth, client satisfaction, and business results.
- Lead complex contract negotiations and enterprise-wide commercial discussions, balancing client needs with business objectives to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Promote a strong governance and control environment by ensuring business activities are executed in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards while maintaining a steadfast commitment to doing the right thing for clients and the business.
Qualifications
- Healthcare or other complex enterprise industry experience preferred, including success operating within highly regulated environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise client management, sales, or business development teams with accountability for commercial growth and client outcomes.
- Experience in commercial payments, including Corporate Card, Travel & Expense (T&E), and B2B payment solutions, with a strong understanding of enterprise payment ecosystems, client needs, and industry trends.
- Candidate must be able to work in a virtual setting and reside in the posted territory (NY/NJ/CT/PA/MA).

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
Salary range
- $123,000 - $215,250 per year
