Job Description

Corporate Affairs and Communications (CA&C) is a global strategic function that uses a variety of programs and platforms to shape and communicate American Express’ brand message and key business initiatives to shareholders, colleagues and the community-at-large. Our team oversees global public affairs and media relations, social media, colleague communications, and corporate sustainability.

Overview:

We are looking for an experienced, strategic, and highly versatile communications professional to serve as Director, HR Communications. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies that bring our Colleague Value Proposition to life and help colleagues understand and engage with the programs, experiences, and resources that support them throughout their journey at American Express.


The Director will lead communications across a broad portfolio of colleague initiatives, working closely with senior leaders and partners to create communications that inspire engagement and drive action.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute end-to-end internal communications campaigns that advance enterprise priorities and strengthen the overall colleague experience.
  • Serve as a strategic communications partner to senior HR leaders and teams, providing counsel on messaging, positioning, audience strategy, channels and engagement.
  • Translate HR programs, policies, and initiatives into clear and compelling communications for colleagues and leaders.
  • Identify creative communications tactics that break through and resonate with colleagues, while effectively leveraging established enterprise channels and platforms.
  • Build a results-driven approach to communications, using insights and measurement to assess effectiveness, inform strategy and continuously improve colleague engagement.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver consistent, aligned, and high-impact communications.
  • Work with internal teams to manage the logistics and presentations for colleague events, such as town halls, forums, fireside chats, and engagement activities.
  • Manage multiple priorities and workstreams simultaneously, exercising strong judgment and maintaining a high standard of quality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience within a corporate communications, marketing or HR organization, and/or working directly with clients through an agency.

  • Demonstrated experience with internal and senior executive communications.

  • Proven track record of delivering high-impact internal and/or external communications, including message development, strategic communications planning, innovative digital content, integrated communications channel strategies, audience segmentation and measurement.

  • Strong design skills, with experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leadership, and engage effectively and positively with clients and stakeholders.

  • Exceptional writer who is able to communicate clearly and effectively across a variety of formats, tones and audiences.

  • Strong project management experience and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively while pushing a variety of projects through to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with executive, colleague and/or HR communications.

Salary range

  • $123,000 - $215,250 per year
