Director of Operations- Heavy Civil Construction

The Opportunity

The Director of Operations will work closely with the President and project leadership to oversee J. Banicki's active project portfolio and support the company's continued growth throughout Arizona.

This person will:

    • Provide operational leadership and oversight across multiple construction projects
    • Work directly with Project Managers and Superintendents to drive successful project execution
    • Maintain accountability for project financial performance, schedule, safety, quality and staffing
    • Review monthly project cost and revenue projections and support company revenue forecasting
    • Oversee manpower and equipment planning across projects
    • Maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, architects and engineers
    • Support projects from preconstruction through completion and help resolve complex operational and contractual issues
    • Review and negotiate change orders and identify and mitigate project risk
    • Partner with leadership on business development, proposal and preconstruction efforts
    • Develop, mentor and lead Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers and emerging leaders
    • Support recruiting, performance management and succession planning for operational teams


What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings both strong construction knowledge and the leadership ability to operate at a broader business level.

The ideal candidate will have:

    • 15+ years of progressive construction experience, including significant Project Management and operational leadership responsibility
    • Experience leading multiple projects and project teams
    • Strong understanding of project financials, forecasting, cost control, scheduling, change management and risk
    • Proven ability to lead and develop Project Managers, Superintendents and project staff
    • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with owners and clients
    • Experience supporting business development and preconstruction efforts
    • Strong negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills
    • Working knowledge of construction technology including HCSS, Primavera, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office
    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered
