Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic product leader to join the Acceptance Solutions team as Senior Manager, Digital Product Management.

This role will have meaningful ownership of strategic payment acceptance products for in-person payments (e.g. retail terminal and “SoftPOS” mobile point of sale) and capabilities and will help define how American Express acceptance evolves as payment technology and merchant needs continue to change.

The successful candidate will develop and execute product strategies and roadmaps, translate merchant and partner needs into scalable capabilities, prioritize investments, and lead cross-functional teams through complex product decisions and delivery. The role will work closely with Technology, other Product teams, merchant-facing organizations, external partners, and stakeholders across American Express to bring new capabilities to market and continuously improve existing solutions.

This is an opportunity for a product leader who enjoys operating at the intersection of product strategy, technology, payments, and customer needs and who can translate complex problems into clear product direction and measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own product strategy and roadmap for assigned Acceptance Solutions products and capabilities, establishing a clear vision, priorities, and multi-year roadmap aligned with merchant needs, enterprise priorities, technology strategy, and broader payments industry trends.
  • Lead end-to-end product management, from identifying customer and market needs through product definition, requirements, prioritization, development, launch, scaling, ongoing enhancement, and lifecycle management.
  • Translate strategy into execution by developing and prioritizing product capabilities and maintaining a clear product backlog based on customer value, business impact, technical dependencies, economics, risk, and strategic priorities.
  • Partner closely with Technology and engineering teams to translate product strategy into actionable capabilities and requirements, resolve dependencies and trade-offs, and enable predictable delivery.
  • Develop a deep understanding of merchants, partners, and the acceptance ecosystem, using customer insights, market research, competitive intelligence, data, and industry trends to identify opportunities for product innovation and improvement.
  • Shape the future of payment acceptance by evaluating emerging technologies, evolving merchant experiences, and changes across the payments ecosystem and translating those developments into actionable product opportunities.
  • Build compelling business cases and investment recommendations for new products, capabilities, and enhancements, considering customer value, strategic fit, economics, implementation complexity, and expected business outcomes.
  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Technology, operations, servicing, merchant-facing teams, risk, compliance, and other enterprise stakeholders.
  • Drive product decision-making and stakeholder alignment across teams with differing priorities, clearly articulating recommendations, trade-offs, risks, and dependencies to senior leaders and partners.
  • Manage product risks, issues, and dependencies, proactively identifying barriers to execution and facilitating decisions and resolution across organizational boundaries.
  • Establish product success measures and performance indicators, using quantitative and qualitative insights to evaluate product performance, identify opportunities, and inform roadmap decisions.
  • Support external partner and industry engagement as appropriate, representing product strategy and requirements with technology providers, acceptance partners, and other participants in the payments ecosystem.
  • Strengthen organizational capability and resilience by building product knowledge across the team, establishing scalable product-management practices, and reducing dependency on individual subject-matter experts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in digital product management, including ownership of product strategy, roadmaps, prioritization, requirements, and delivery.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of complex products or platforms and independently move from ambiguous business problems to clear product strategies and execution plans.
  • Strong strategic and structured problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize customer needs, market dynamics, technology considerations, and business priorities into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience partnering closely with Technology and engineering organizations to develop and deliver complex technology products.
  • Strong customer-centric mindset with demonstrated ability to incorporate customer, partner, and market insights into product decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead across organizational boundaries without relying on direct authority.
  • Strong executive communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics and communicate recommendations, trade-offs, and decisions to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to use quantitative and qualitative insights to inform product strategy and prioritization.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, global organization while balancing strategic thinking with execution.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, ownership, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within payments, merchant acquiring, payment acceptance, payment networks, fintech, or adjacent financial technology industries.
  • Understanding of payment acceptance technologies and ecosystems, including areas such as payment terminals, EMV, contactless payments, software-based acceptance/SoftPOS, payment gateways, processors, or acquiring.
  • Experience managing technology platforms, APIs, SDKs, or other products that enable external partners or customers to integrate with complex technology ecosystems.
  • Experience developing products that operate within regulated environments or require coordination across multiple external and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience evaluating emerging technologies and translating technical developments into customer and business opportunities.

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
