Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides patient care in an ambulatory setting with kindness and compassion under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff. The position works as part of a team with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and students in the health professions. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) reports to the Office Manager, Health Services.

Note that this position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease.

Essential Functions


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong skills in use of EMR, scheduling, notes, and billing.
  • Ability to verify insurance, schedule and room patients.
  • Computer literacy and use of MS Office, Excel and Outlook email.
  • Ability to meet compliance with Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
High school graduate or GED equivalent.

Required Work Experience
One (1) year of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in primary care with Women's Health.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college education.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in primary care with Women's Health.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.


Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Current nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification.
  • Current BLS certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of employment.


Work Hours
Typical Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds of medical equipment and/or supplies.
  • Fine motor skills for the appropriate handling of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve clinic equipment/materials.
  • Ability to push/pull medical carts/wagons used in special events holding up to 30lbs.
  • Ability to regularly move about clinic and event venues to actively assess and engage patients.
