Position Summary
The Media Services Technician is responsible for assisting the Media Services Manager and Lead Media Services Technician in the installation of classroom audiovisual and instructional technology equipment and coordination/delivery of audiovisual services to UIW classrooms as requested by faculty or other staff. Execution of duties requires strict adherence to customer service standards. The position reports to Media Services Manager.

Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Strong general management skills to supervise and train student workers;
  • Strong knowledge of audiovisual and instructional technology equipment installation, including digital matrix switchers, digital signal processors, and projectors;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate a number of projects simultaneously;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills;
  • Versatility to work effectively as an individual, team leader, or team member;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to pivot with minimal notice to meet customer needs and deadlines;
  • Proficient in Windows OS;
  • Able to successfully perform basic IT hardware and software diagnostics (laptops, desktops, mobile computing devices, audio video hardware, peripherals, etc.);
  • Overall understanding of audio/visual infrastructure and voice/data applications; ability to troubleshoot installing, testing and supporting AMX, Crestron and/or Extron control systems;
  • Strong technical skills on a variety of audio/visual systems equipment;
  • Ability to read drawings and schematics;
  • Ability to competently and safely use hand and power tools;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience
One (1) year of related professional experience working with audiovisual technologies. Note that technical coursework in audiovisual technologies or related field will be considered in lieu of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with AMX, Biamp, Crestron and Extron.
  • Experience working with wired and wireless networks.
  • Experience working in an academic institution.
  • Some college with IT coursework.


Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours
Hours are semester based and subject to change:Fall /spring -9:30 am-6:30 pmSummer – 8am to 5pmAbility to work some weekends based on needs of the department.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs of equipment and repair gear.
  • Ability to reach, stoop, climb ladders, and crouch in small areas to access equipment and make basic repairs.
  • Hand dexterity to use tools in the set-up and repair of equipment.
  • Ability to move about campus from building to building to access event venues for setup and repair of systems as needed.
