Position Summary
The Medical Informatics Librarian advances the educational, research, and scholarly communication mission of the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM) through innovative library services, information literacy instruction, research support, and academic engagement. The position collaborates with faculty, staff, students, residents, and library colleagues; contributes to the continuous improvement of SOM Library services and resources; and provides library, instructional, and research services for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Master of Biomedical Sciences, Master of Public Health, and Graduate Medical Education programs. The Medical Informatics Librarian reports to the Director of the SOM Library.

Position primarily works out of the School of Osteopathic Medicine located at Brooks City Base Campus located at 7615 Kennedy Hill Drive, San Antonio, TX 78235.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of health information literacy principles and emerging trends in AI health literacy.
• Proficiency in the use of instructional technologies, software applications, and educational support platforms.
• Strong project management and team leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate collaborative initiatives and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Advanced literature searching and information retrieval skills using health sciences databases, including PubMed and other evidence-based resources.
• Ability to design, develop, and maintain online instructional materials and learning objects, including tutorial videos, research guides, and online learning modules.
• Proficiency with technologies and applications used for course management, online collaboration, project management, and library operations (e.g., Canvas, OneDrive/SharePoint, Springshare products, and integrated library systems such as Alma).
• Excellent oral, written, instructional, and presentation communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

Required Education
Master's Degree from an ALA accredited library and/or Information Science Program (or foreign equivalent).



Required Work Experience
Two (2) years of professional librarian experience in a medical or health sciences library, or equivalent experience supporting medical or health sciences education including the design, delivery, and assessment of instructional programs for adult learners with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting systematic reviews, evidence synthesis projects, and scholarly publishing activities.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with faculty to support curriculum development, instructional initiatives, and student learning.
• Experience working in a medical education, health sciences, or clinical care environment.
• Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) certification.
• Knowledge of institutional repositories, scholarly communication, research data management, and related library workflows.
• Additional degree or substantial coursework in a health sciences-related field (e.g., MPH, Microbiology, Public Health, Sociology, or related discipline).
• Experience working independently and managing diverse responsibilities in a small library or branch campus setting.
• Interest in supporting healthcare practitioners, including clinical faculty, residents, fellows, and students engaged in clinical training.
• Knowledge of osteopathic medicine, including osteopathic principles and practice.

Work Hours
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with occasional evening or weekend hours based on library or school operational needs.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 20lbs of library supplies.
• Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve library materials.
• Ability to push/pull library carts/wagons holding up to 80lbs.
• Ability to move about library as needed throughout the day, as well as attend meetings, training sessions, conferences, and other work-related activities both on and off campus.
